Hi, friends. Today’s post is laidback, and before I jump from my Easter series back into regular blog posts, I wanted to take a breather.

My life is calmer right now vs. a couple month ago. From the beginning of February to the beginning of April, I–

  • made two newsletters and two programs for my district of United Methodist Women
  • gave three sermons in the place of my out-of-town pastor
  • interned with Lay Servant School for two weekends
  • and more!

I won’t have to make any newsletters or programs for a while, and Lay Servant School only takes place once a year. I might deliver the same three sermons to another church soon, but I look forward to that because I get to improve on old material rather than start from scratch!

What I’m Reading

We’re reading a new book in the Sunday School class I teach called The Apostle’s Creed for Preaching, Teaching, and Worship by Rev. James Howell. [The Apostle’s Creed essentially summarizes Christianity.] Rev. Howell examines each line of the creed, providing explanations and reflections. The book has been a pleasure to read and share with the others in class.

My Bibles are far from pristine, ha!

In Bible studies, I continue to chip my way through the Old Testament while lapping the New Testament repeatedly. With the OT, I’ve made it to 1 Kings. I’m progressing slowly because I have a work Bible and a home Bible, and I read the OT and takes notes in my home Bible. I read my work Bible on days when I won’t have alone-time at home. When I read my work Bible, I work on the NT resource list I teased back in my New Year’s post. Truthfully, I’m shooting in the dark with this project, but maybe I will have something substantial by the end of the year.

In fiction, I’m halfway through Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which is an entertaining story and even laugh-out-loud funny at points.

What I’m Writing

I’ve worked on a variety of blog posts in the last month, as I am a twenty-rough-drafts-at-once kind of blogger, hehehe. Here are a few in the line-up. Titles are subject to change when all is said and done.

  • Addressing Hopelessness in my Disabled Peers + Suggestions of Productive Activities (Disability Chat)
  • Defending Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe (Classics)
  • Fair Weather Friends With God
  • Clearing Out Defunct Blogs + Tips to Keep Going (Blogging Tips & Tricks)
  • Christian Music I’m Loving Lately–Pop, Rap, Worship, Gospel, Etc.

Other Tidbits

I want to thank all of you who like, comment on, share, etc. my blog posts. I spend a lot of time reading blogs. We all need love and encouragement. So, to people who support bloggers–you are awesome and appreciated!

I broke down and purchased a paid plan through Canva after using the free version for so long. I mostly bought the plan for the “magic resize” function, though I also wanted access to more graphics.

Putting my new subscription to use, I made some potential new logos. Let me know if you like one of the new logos or prefer my current one. I’m still experimenting with them.

I’m also trying to connect with more bloggers on social media, so please follow/like my pages. Comment below if you use social media, and I will do the same!

Sidenote: I started using Pinterest recently, and all it’s accomplished is making me want to buy things. Am I doing this right?😂

Thanks for reading! How are you doing? Do any of my blog drafts pique your interest? What do you think about the logos? Let me know in the comments.

P.S. Enjoy some Easter pictures!

  1. Hi Lils! I like the first 3 logos pretty much equally. If I had to pick one I’d probably go for the third along from the left, but it’s a really tough decision! That magic resize feature of Canva is very tempting. I’ve resisted the urge to upgrade thus far, but if I can afford it I might take the plunge at some point. I’ll be interested to learn whether you feel it’s good value for money. Have a blessed weekend 🙂

    1. Hey, Steven! Are you referring to the mandala one? The magic resize has been super helpful with converting my blog cover photos to Instagram size. I want to start making some social media posts that involve graphics and inspirational sayings/scripture verses. Once I get going on those, I think I’ll be happy I can access a lot more! I’ll have to report back about it in the future. 🙂

      1. Yes, the mandala one. But I like the designs with flowers, too. I’m looking to improve the way I use social media so will look forward to your reflections on the paid Canva plan. Have a great week! 🙂

  2. Hi Lily, Great job on your post, I can’t help you with the logo, I like them all. I am reading old and new testament also. I am in Judges and John. And I read Psalms and proverbs daily. I am going to check out your tips on blogging next. Thank you for your words.

    1. Thank you for dropping by, Sandra! I will check out your blog also. That is cool that you are reading the Bible in a similar way to me. Thank the Lord that we both survived the first few books of the OT, ha!

  3. Hey Lily, I can’t wait to read your future posts! They all sound good. As for the logo, I’m favoring the second from the left (purple background with Retrospective Lily framed in flowers). I enjoyed reading your update as well.

  6. You are so lovely as ever! I love the first logo the most! You certainly have been busy!!!

I’m the same. The New Testament I love rereading, and the Old Testament, I learn a lot. BUt it takes a lot longer and often I feel certain parts, I don’t have a connection, so it’s a little harder to get into. Breaking them up, and not reading as much as helped my interest a lot. 🙂 So thankful we can always gain something new. God is good!

    1. Thank you for your input and your kind words, hun! I agree that the OT is harder to get into, but interestingly, there have been a few instances where I could find a relevant lesson in those old stories. My SS class was confused over that scripture where Jesus says that one must hate brother, mother, sister, wife, husband, one’s own life, etc. to be His disciple. We worked out that “hate” in that instance kinda means defy/disregard, as in you mustn’t choose someone or something over God. And I brought up how King Solomon chose his wives over God, building altars for his wives’ gods and even worshipping them. Though I do write lots of question marks throughout the OT, God reveals things even in the midst of my confusion!

      1. Amen! I’ve been clinging heavily to the scripture, where you seek Me, you will find me. The past few months I’ve been understanding Isaiah a lot more, which has been incredible. And you’re right, there are totally stories in the OT that really help us connect to the NT. I struggle with battles often, they aren’t my thing. But they are reality. And I can say there are some I do enjoy and connect with better. Prapse the Lord, He helps us draw closer to His truth when we draw close to Him.

  11. Ok, i like the FIRST logo with the flowers. i also really love the bouquet at the top with the gorgeous lilies and other flowers… but then i am partial to anything LILY. ( Note: She is named after my great-grandmother [ Lillie] but i spelled it like the flower, which as it turns out suits her really well because she is beautiful and she can light up a room with her smile) So proud ! Love you to the moon and back, baby girl!

  14. Lovely post! Glad to hear all the updates, you have a servant’s heart and that it means so much knowing that you are taking the time out of all your work you do to follow along on my little blog. ❤️ Love the photos too! I am also slowly reading my way through the OT this year, and seeing so many new things. My favorite new logo is the top one/first one, pink with the flowers. Very lovely and very you!! Continued blessings to you Lily!

I enjoy your posts so much, and find YOU insightful!
I just started 1 Kings now but I spent a lot of time in the books of Samuel. Going very slow and keep going back over things which spoke to me. Right now I’m ruminating doing a post about God as ‘mother’ (NOT in a new age way, mind you–but how the Bible refers to Him that way), since I was really triggered (in a good way, if that makes sense) by a verse in Samuel where David and his fighting men were referred to, more or less, as ‘mama bears’. I sort of camped out there and keep going back to it! https://biblehub.com/2_samuel/17-8.htm

  15. Yikes, I’m sorry I’m so late catching up with this!
Sounds like you’ve been very busy. I’m also one of those ’20-rough-drafts-at-once’ bloggers; I really need to get on top of the things I’ve started and never finish! Your subject ideas sounds brilliant, I’m especially interested in the first one with hopelessness and suggestions of productive activities with disability.
Oooo how’re you finding the paid-for version of Canva? I wondered about that myself. I might give the trial of it a go first as I think you can still trial it for free for maybe a week. I like your current logo but the others you’ve posted here all offer something a little different…it’s hard to pick a favourite! I’d say 2, 1 and then 4. Do you have a favourite?
I’ll make sure I’m following you across all social media now – I’m not on Pinterest but I use the others 🙂
    Beautiful photos!  ♥

    1. No need to apologize–I’m the worst about being “late to the party” lol. I’m glad that you think my post ideas sound interesting! And, yes, you can have a month long free trial, and unlike many subscription sites, they actually send you a warning a few days before the trial ends. I’m feeling torn about the logos, so I actually made another post today asking for more advice. I will have to make a decision sometime, gah!
